A Photo Session Spark: Plan an Adventure

We all have those stories from our childhood of a special time with a loved one. If we are lucky, we have photos that go along with those stories.

This is another memory in which I have no photos to show for it. I can imagine telling Kendall and Levi about going on an adventure with Papa to this big bowl in the woods. I know they’ll be like, “ok mom, cool.” How can I ever describe the beauty that surrounded us and the feelings that were evoked from this adventure in just words? I can be very descriptive, but the photos would pack the real punch.

A Photo Session Spark: Plan an Adventure

This spot was within minutes of the cabin we used to travel to. It doesn’t have to be some magical place in the woods. It can be anywhere that is new to you. Plan it. Go there. Bring a photographer (or be the photographer that tags along with your client).

I help client documentary photographers fine-tune their workflow + marketing game, so their work is filled with sessions that represent their voice + client values while earning a living. I shoot undirected, off-beat stories that aren’t preserved often enough (like the story of couples before starting a fam or becoming empty-nesters – a dream project of mine), so my clients’ old box of photos is a meaningful, visual diary of their life + legacy to leave behind.
