Photo Session Idea: Sunrise Fishing with Dad

You know how there are memories you hold that you wish you had photos of? This is near the top of my list. I can describe the memory to be very vivid in your mind, because it’s one of those memories that I see very clearly in my head. You know how some memories just kind of go fuzzy after some time? Not this one.

A Photo Session Idea

The fun thing about this memory is that it has evolved. A few summers back, my husband and I went up north. My dad met us there. You see, my husband and dad have grown to have an awesome friendship. I’m lucky to have two of my favorite men get along so well. Dave is from the city and though he’s been fishing before, he never was really all that “outdoorsy” until we started dating. So this one morning, my Dad and Dave went out fishing while I stayed back at the cabin. I caught them in a cloud of mist on the water. Now having the gift to recognize this beauty, I grabbed my camera. I have the most amazing photo of my husband and my dad fishing out on that misty lake. So while I wish I had photos with me in them, the one of the two of them is just as special.

Additionally, I am so often told that people “wish they had little ones” after seeing all of my documentary photos of my kids. This is a prime example of a session idea for older kids and teens.

Session Spark 10

I help client documentary photographers fine-tune their workflow + marketing game, so their work is filled with sessions that represent their voice + client values while earning a living. I shoot undirected, off-beat stories that aren’t preserved often enough (like the story of couples before starting a fam or becoming empty-nesters – a dream project of mine), so my clients’ old box of photos is a meaningful, visual diary of their life + legacy to leave behind.
