This post marks our FIRST ever official Honestly Documented – Documentary-Style Photo Contest! This will be an ongoing contest, choosing a winner + a handful of honorable mentions to feature each month. This particular post features images submitted in August. By the 10th of October, we will have September’s winner chosen + images featured…. and so on…

Post your {Honestly Documented} themed photos to our Facebook Timeline + tag your photography page. Feel free to add 1-4 sentences to your photo as a backstory (as seen with some of the submissions below).

For full details about the contest, visit the Honestly Documented page and official rules.

Disclaimer: By posting your photo on our Facebook Timeline, you are giving us permission to feature your photo in our regular blog posts (if chosen) and shared throughout our social media platforms (with credit to you, of course!) + a Pinterest collage of our winners. Readers: Be sure to give credit to the photographer if you pin an image.

Congratulations to the chosen photographers this past month!

I chose the image above, because it was a friendly reminder to embrace our relationships and our “normal,” typical things we do as something truly special. xo Marie

“The husband wasn’t home this morning as I gave my Colette a trim, so I broke out my tripod for the first time in at least 3 years. At first I wasn’t wild about my posture, my pooch, the composition, bladabladablada. Then I remembered…I’ve had 7 pregnancies in as many years and am nursing my 4th baby. Why wouldn’t I want to remember what I’ve given for them?

Edit: I am not trying to draw any attention or affirmation on my appearance. I simply meant to communicate that I was tempted to discard this image because I was distracted by something that does not matter in the scope of a lifetime.”

I help client documentary photographers fine-tune their workflow + marketing game, so their work is filled with sessions that represent their voice + client values while earning a living. I shoot undirected, off-beat stories that aren’t preserved often enough (like the story of couples before starting a fam or becoming empty-nesters – a dream project of mine), so my clients’ old box of photos is a meaningful, visual diary of their life + legacy to leave behind.
