Fresh 48: Documentary Style Baby Sessions

Guest post images and writing from Cynthia Dawson

Getting the chance to witness the new love that surrounds a brand spanking new baby is so joyous.  Getting to capture those moments with my camera is even better.  There are no posed moments, only raw emotions.

This session had lots of those moments.

When I’m working with a family in this type of setting, I like to quietly observe.  I wait for that sweet embrace or soft kiss between mother and child when I get to press my shutter.  Those candid connections are what make a session like this so special.

I help client documentary photographers fine-tune their workflow + marketing game, so their work is filled with sessions that represent their voice + client values while earning a living. I shoot undirected, off-beat stories that aren’t preserved often enough (like the story of couples before starting a fam or becoming empty-nesters – a dream project of mine), so my clients’ old box of photos is a meaningful, visual diary of their life + legacy to leave behind.
