All the Awesome of October in Documentary Family Photography

In the spirit of unity + community here’s a round-up of all the things (that we know of) happening in the Documentary Family Photography Community this month.

Note from our Founder:

Hello, my sweet friend!

This month we’re focused on all things PRESERVATION PROJECT + FAMILY HISTORY!

To show up better in our businesses, we have to be crystal clear on WHY we do what we do. For most in our community, me included, we picked up our cameras NOT to be photographers, but to document our lives.

The photographer piece came later.

If you’re anything like me, you started putting becoming a “great photographer” or above your original mission to make meaningful pictures that document your life. It became about the complexity of the work, finding an epic moment that wow’ed social media, or simply all about BUSINESS (getting clients).

Disclaimer: if you’re in it for the art, not the other way around, keep doing you love! It’s not a which way is better.

In October, we’re living out our root cause to document our lives BETTER than before.

Not just the funny stuff your kids did last week or the Saturday at home with your honey, but ALL walks of our lives. Let’s get remember the purpose of the pictures we make – there’s no one, right way to do this thing – and make sure our actions are serving THAT.

Beyond this news post, we’ll be sharing more on this topic in your inbox and over on Instagram. Please, for the love, grab the To-Remember list in the Free Zone below.
