All the Awesome of August in Documentary Family Photography

In the spirit of unity + community here’s a round-up of all the things (that we know of) happening in the Documentary Family Photography Community this month.

Note from our Founder:

Hiiii!

Happy August!

We’re dedicating this month to doodling in the background, as I call it.

We’re in the thick of summer (here in North America). Some of us have back-to-school starting this month (August 20th for us!). We’re savoring our last days of lazy mornings, late nights, and endless hours in the pool.

I had the luxury to think about business very little in July (opened my laptop less than 5 times maybe). I’d love to FULLY continue the biz distance for August if I keep up the candor… to push all business off until fall, at least, until August 20th.

Think about fall and what you want your business to look like.

Me? I’ve got goals. I want to host the Memorable Story Collector’s workshop, The Preservation Project, and knock out 2019 for the Intentional Documentary Podcast, among other things.

Those things don’t map out, plan, and prepare themselves.

There’s pieces that need to be put together to make our next runs better than before. So…

I’m gonna doodle it out in the background.

What can you doodle in the background of your summer fun?

I’ll doodle what I’m gonna do. What I want to see happen. Ideas. Inspiration. Questions. Design. The stories I wanna tell.

Not doodle a rigid “what I need to do today” (although, I’m sure a few of those will pop up), but my first steps for when August 20th hits.

When I do this, it feels GOOD, because there’s zero pressure to take action or to react immediately to an idea. The ideas + inspo get to age gracefully until you’re ready to DO.

It’s not choosing business over presence + pool time.

It’s simply exploring intentions for your next season.

So friend, this month, dream about your next season.

(even if it’s not like us in North America about to start up back-to-school and end summer)

Doodle in the background today to be intentional IN the next season.

Doodle on xo
